RealNetworks will announce an agreement to buy Scrabulous

Om over at GigaOm has the scoop that RealNetworks might buy Scrabulous in the near future.

Bill Hankes, VP of Corporate Communications at RealNetworks told Om in an e-mail that since Real has licenses from both Hasbro and Mattel, “we are in a unique position to bring all the parties together in an effort to preserve the Scrabble experience for millions of Scrabulous fans.”

Scrabulous was created by by Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, two brothers living in Calcutta. They were recently the subject of a NYT profile over the weekend. The application is bringing in approximately $25K/day in advertising revenue.

This is a prediction that RealNetworks will announce an agreement to buy Scrabulous. It will be judged on Friday, March 7th.

UPDATE: EA recently released a version of Scrabble for the iPod.
